014223 Professional Learning & Practice

Subject Learning Goals:

  1. Develop a broader understanding of professional learning by critically reflecting on how my understanding of learning, professional practice and change evolves throughout the subject.

  2. Develop my ability to critically observe and analyse professional practice by applying relevant learning theories and concepts to real-world professional contexts.

  3. Strengthen my ability to connect theory with practice by identifying how different approaches to learning and professional change can be applied within healthcare and education settings.

  4. Develop greater self-awareness as a learner and professional by critically reflecting on my experiences, assumptions, strengths and areas for development throughout the subject.

  5. Improve my professional communication skills by learning to communicate reflections, ideas and analyses effectively across different genres and professional learning contexts.

Linking statement:

These Subject Learning Goals build on the foundations established in previous subjects by extending my understanding of learning beyond traditional educational settings and towards diverse professional contexts. The goals provide a framework for developing a more critical and reflective understanding of how learning occurs, how professional practice is shaped, and how individuals and organisations respond to change. Through critically reflecting on my evolving understanding of professional learning, I aim to recognise how my previous assumptions and experiences influence the way I approach learning and professional development. The goals also emphasise the importance of observing and analysing professional practice through relevant learning theories and concepts. By connecting theoretical perspectives with authentic professional contexts, I aim to strengthen my ability to critically evaluate how learning occurs in practice and identify opportunities for improvement. This will support me in recognising the implications that different approaches to learning and change may have within healthcare and education settings, particularly in relation to professional development and ongoing practice. A further focus of these goals is developing greater self-awareness as a learner and professional. Through ongoing reflection, I aim to identify my strengths, assumptions and areas for development, while considering how my learning can contribute to continuous professional growth. This reflective process will encourage me to take greater ownership of my learning and recognise learning as an ongoing process rather than something confined to formal education. Finally, the goal of strengthening my professional communication reflects the importance of communicating learning and ideas appropriately across different professional contexts. Collectively, these goals align with the broader aims of the Master of Education (Learning and Leadership) by strengthening my capacity to critically analyse learning, connect theory with practice, communicate effectively, and develop as a reflective and evidence-informed practitioner.
